Registration Criteria
Understanding your obligation to register with IRAS — the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.
Required when your taxable turnover exceeds SGD 1,000,000 in the past 12 months or is expected to exceed this amount in the next 12 months. You must register within 30 days of becoming liable.
Available for businesses below the threshold who wish to claim input tax on expenses. Once registered, you must remain registered for at least 2 years and comply with all GST filing requirements.
Registration is usually effective from the date your liability arose, or a future date you request. Retroactive registration is possible in limited circumstances with IRAS approval.
Unsure if you've hit the threshold? We analyze your trailing 12-month revenue to determine liability — free of charge.

Both zero-rated and exempt supplies don't charge GST to your customer — but the difference matters for your business. Zero-rated supplies (like exports) are charged at 0% GST, which means you can still claim input tax on your business expenses. Exempt supplies (like financial services or residential property rentals) cannot charge GST, and you cannot claim input tax on related expenses. We help you classify your sales correctly to maximize your claims.
Yes, in most cases. IRAS allows pre-registration claims for stock, assets, and services purchased within 6 months of your registration date — provided they are for the purpose of your taxable business. The claim must be made in your first GST return, and you'll need valid tax invoices. We review your pre-registration purchases to ensure nothing is missed.
IRAS imposes a 5% late payment penalty on any tax outstanding, plus an additional 2% for every month the tax remains unpaid. Repeated late filing may also result in fines up to S$5,000 or prosecution. Our automated deadline monitoring and 7-day advance reminders ensure this never happens to our clients.
Exports are zero-rated supplies, so you don't charge GST to your overseas customers. However, registration may still be beneficial because it allows you to claim input tax on your local expenses — rent, utilities, local supplier costs. If your turnover exceeds SGD 1 million, registration is mandatory regardless of where your customers are located. We assess whether voluntary registration makes sense for your export business.
